Happy Birthday, Freddie!

We are delighted to share the news that the National Portrait Gallery in London has acquired the iconic photo of Freddie taken by Neal Preston at Wembley in 1986 for their permanent collection.

The print will be on display from tomorrow at From the Ground Up a new exhibition in partnership with Brent Museums and Archives at The Library, Willesden Green in Brent.

"I am honored that a print of my Freddie Mercury photo has been acquired by the National Portrait Gallery in London for their permanent collection. The NPG includes work by some of my all time photographic heroes, including Norman Parkinson, David Bailey, Richard Avedon and Gered Mankowitz. To be included in such a group is truly a dream come true. My thanks go to all at the National Portrait Gallery, and of course to Freddie, Brian, Roger and John and their phenomenal road crew” Neal Preston.

Queen: The Neal Preston Photographs is published by Reel Art Press and available here.
