"Freddie loved Christmas!"
This week Big Issue carries a must-read anniversary special commemorating 50 years of Bohemian Rhapsody, and 50 years of it as a Christmas number 1. And then number 1 at Christmas again in 1991.
The Big Issue has spoken to Brian May and Roger Taylor about the recording of the track, about the making of the iconic video, about Freddie, his love of Christmas and about the joy he’d feel at it still being a track that means so much to so many. They look at the song's place in the musical canon, its influence that carries so widely, and discuss an exclusive on plans for a new Queen live event, inspired by ABBA’s hologram show.
There is also a piece from Sir Nick Partridge, one of the founders of the Terence Higgins Trust, on how the tragedy of Freddie’s death helped with public perception of AIDS, and also how the track raised so much for AIDS-related causes.
The Big Issue is on sale from Monday 24th November, on streets across Britain, and on bigissueshop.com
